I have been nominated to the Scrum Alliance Board of Directors thanks to everyone who voted. You can read the official press release on the Scrum Alliance website. Thank you to everyone who voted for me!

I am pleased to annouce that I am one of six candidates that will be put out to public vote for one of two seats on the Scrum Alliance Board of Directors.  If you are a Scrum Alliance Member (CSM or CSPO), you are eligable to vote. The vote is important, even if you don't vote for me. Please be sure to have your voice heard.

So you want to be a stage producer for the Agile conference? Great! This post is meant to give you a primer not only on how to get started but also on how to build a wonderful experience for the attendees.

If everyone did his or her part, the stage review process would work very well.

How it Should Work

  • Submitter gets submission in early
  • Review team provides feedback inside the conference review system
  • Submitter gets notified and updates submission
  • Review team gives it a final pass just after the submission system closes
  • Stage producer builds program
  • Accept or reject letter goes out

The following three factors are crucial to a successful submission for the Agile Alliance Agile Conference:

  • Structuring your Submission
  • First Impressions are Critical
  • Timing is Everything

The Agile Alliance "Agile" conference has become the preeminent event for our community each year. It boasts, on average, 1500 attendees and this year received nearly 1000 submissions. Organizing this is no small task.

This post is meant to share with attendees and submitters alike what my experience working on the conference for the last four years has been like. My next three posts will show you what it is my teams look for in submissions, how we make decisions, and more.

I am excited to announce that I’ll be speaking at the upcoming Better Software and Agile Development Practices|West Conference, June 6-11, 2010 at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas, NV.

The Scrum Alliance has hired Enthiosys, Luke Hohmann's company, to run a series of Innovation Games to help the Scrum Alliance prioritize it's backlog. You can play here. I was not sure how this would go. I have played this game called Buy a Feature before and liked it, but what is going on now is unmoderated. Is it worth your time?

Thanks to everyone who attended my workshop at SQE Agile Development Practices 2009 in Orlando titled “Practicing ScrumBut: Ensuring Project Failure” and special thanks to Cory Foy for coming up from Tampa to do the workshop with me.

I am always amazed when I ask people what they think the job of a manager is. I get answers like “to tell people what to do” to “stay out of the way” to “do my performance review” to “lead”.

The last one is always of interest to me. Do companies hire managers or do they hire leaders?
